Interim

Hey all,

Been a bit since new pics have been posted, I know. Just nothing photogenic has happened since the last time. Priming walls, building beds, filling in holes, necessary but boring stuff.

Tracy and I are staining the doors and trim now, and will start painting the walls soon after. Then, in the third week or so of November, we'll start putting the tile in the shower, build the glass block wall around it, and finish that up.

So, stay tuned.

Details

We found the headboard at a place called Finder's Keepers, here in Long Beach. They get donated stuff, and seconds, and closeouts. Then, with the money they get from the sale, they get food for the needy. We liked this because of the dark woods that will work with the teak we have, and also bamboo at the top for our look we have going on. You know, this kind of southeast Asia, Disney Jungle Cruise kind of thing we have. Never, ever, grow up.

Close up of the top of the headboard. Because of where the money goes, it's a total win-win situation.

Close up of the sink and faucet. The coolest faucet we have ever seen. Tracy found it online from the manufacturer, and it didn't cost an arm and a leg.

We used Teak flooring as countertops. Almost looks like boat deck. Really love it. We will seal it soon, and it will really shine.

Used Teak with the tub, too. We really love the effect that flooring gives to the top here.

Soon, our mirror will go up. Also, we will Teak glaze all the other wood to darken it.

Moving In

Alright! Starting to move in.
This is the sink area. Mirror isn't up yet.

Tracy stained the cement to look like terra cotta. Very cool, doesn't look like cement.

The fan over our bed.

The fan over the bath area.

The room. Woohoo!

Very excited!!!

Little Things

Appliances are in the laundry room. How convenient.

We laid the floor in Jade's room ourselves. Not bad for a couple of amateurs.

Yep, it's just a toilet, but before this we had only one in a house of five. Also, it's in my room.

The light outside our bedroom door. Honestly, it looks better in person.

The outside corridor looks cool at night.

Close to moving in.

New view

Now, looking down the new hall from in the kitchen. Jade's door is on the left, and our is down the hall.

Coming in closer

Doorway to our room

Jade and her friends had her birthday party in our new room. A sleepover on the floor while watching Sailor Moon videos projected on the newly primed white walls. They had a lot of noisy fun.

Getting close.

Last layer of stucco is on. We'll paint the whole thing soon.

Above is the back of the bedroom, and below is turning to the left and looking into the laundry room

And walking in closer.

Spinning around to look back down the walk to the yard.

Backing up into the kitchen and looking through the room into the yard.
The appliances will come in this week.

Drywall and Other Things

The "mud" was put into the shower pan, now it sits with water for a few days to check the seal. The waterproof drywall will go on next, and then we tile it, and build the glass block wall around it.

The niche built into the wall by the tub. Nice to have these kind of details built in.

After entering the hall from the kitchen, this is looking down it to our bedroom door. On the right are the doorways to the toilet, and then the walk in closet. To Tracy's left, on the other side of the wall is the sink/shower/tub area. On her right, past the closet, the bed will go. To the immediate left of this photo, is the door to Jade's room.

This is just looking left into Jade's room.

All the way to the end of our room, looking out the sliding door. We'll put a small barbecue out there. The kid's may not see us for days at a time. We'll just give them the rest of the house.

Maybe not.

Stucco

The first two coats of stucco are on. Now we wait ten days for it to set before the last coat.

Looking down the side of the new room into the new laundry room, in between it and the old garage.

Where the sliding back door of our room meets the wall.

The garage has a new door cut in it, and the crappy vinyl siding that was on has been removed so it can be stuccoed next, so it matches the house. (We still can't figure out why they put siding on it, it was ugly.)

The new custom little window for the toilet room. It will be separate from the rest of the room.

This is the new custom window over the jacuzzi tub. This custom stuff is where the cost goes up.

Coming together

The wrap and the wire for the stucco to go onto.

They wrap and wire the whole thing.

Bryn is standing in the kitchen doorway. Now, it will lead to a pantry/laundry room before going out to the back yard. That's the space between the two doors.

The inspector comes back in the next couple of days.

Stucco Supplies

All the sand, cement, wire, lovingly dumped in our driveway. Tracy had to dig for a half hour to be able to get to the front door.

When the dump truck dropped the sand, they smashed in the stair wall.

Broke off a big chunk of the cap of the wall.

Smashed up all the new stucco that was put on for the front door repair.

Nice big crack, huh?

The supply company was more than willing to pay for the damage. After our guys fix it, they'll send them the bill for the cost.

The amount of debris surprised us.

The roof is covered. This is a huge deal.

Big rolls of the roofing material.

The cement left from the old foundation. We're going to use it to make a wall for landscaping in front. Very green of us, huh?

Water pipes. Actually more exciting than it seems at first glance.

Down the hall, to the giant stack of drywall n our room.

Stucco materials to be delivered next.
