Before the back of the house got worked on, the front doorway needed to get fixed. The steps and the floor were starting to sink. Our builder Erik and his sons got in and broke up the stairs.
As they got into it, we found out back in 1924 when the house was built, they poured dirt into the form. As you can see here, the dirt caused the wood to rot away.
It rotted away under here too. As a matter of fact, if they hadn't used cement in the stucco way back in the '20s, the whole thing would have fallen away from the house. As it was, the entry way had to be reframed from the inside.
